About the photograph
After four hours of driving around the east coast of Aberdeenshire, this was the last stop before our night’s stay in Stonehaven. It was getting late, we were knackered and we were starving. But the prominent Rattray Head Lighthouse was a shot that I had been wanting to capture for months!
Rattray Head Lighthouse was built in 1895 and sits in the North Sea just off the Aberdeenshire coast. And is one of the wildest and most isolated spots on this coastline.
After a sketchy drive down an old track road, and a walk out over sand dunes, I finally reached the beach. Along with several other photographers, I quickly set-up my tripod and camera to capture this dusk shot before the sun fully set.
This minimalist lighthouse print is one of my favourite landscape photographs.
